Every project begins with a puzzle. Survey data, site photos, engineering requirements, client standards, jurisdictional codes, and existing site conditions all have to come together into one accurate set of construction drawings.

And every site is different.

A Typical Workday

From 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (and sometimes beyond), the day is a constant balance of technical work, collaboration, and problem solving:

  • Grab a cup of coffee
  • Reviewing survey data and project information
  • Creating and updating AutoCAD drawing sets
  • Coordinating with Project Managers and engineers
  • Responding to client and jurisdiction review comments
  • Researching property records, utility information, and local requirements
  • Performing quality control checks before submittal
  • Solving design challenges that keep projects moving forward

A single drawing might go through multiple rounds of revisions before it’s finally approved, and every detail matters.

The tools of the trade?

AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, Google Earth, assessor maps, utility records, jurisdictional standards, and enough reference documents to make every project feel like its own investigation.

Solving Design Challenges

Success in this role takes attention to detail, organization, geometry and spatial reasoning, time management, and the ability to manage multiple projects at once. Even a small drafting error can lead to permit delays, redesigns, or construction rework, so accuracy is everything.

One thing that surprises people outside the telecom industry is how much work happens before construction ever begins. Every antenna, cable, equipment cabinet, and connection shown in the field first exists as a carefully coordinated set of drawings that has been reviewed by multiple people and approved by multiple agencies.
